The German Health Minister Jens Spahn continues to promote quick digitalization in German health care and an easy access to electronic patient records (ePA).

At the same time, the ministry of health reminds of the ePA start 1st of January 2021. In connection with digital health applications (DiGAs), the ePA is expected to ensure interoperability for patients / insurants suitable for daily use.

As of today, there are 12 specifications in the vesta-interoperability register of the Gematik (company founded in 2005 by head organization of the German healthcare system to promote digitalization) for the standardization of ePA. Four of the specifications have the status “decision published”, the remaining eight are currently in the decision process.

The KBV (federal association of statutory health insurance physicians) published two more MIOs (medical information objects, these two are maternity log and children examination record) on the 13th of July open for commentary.
