Due to DIMDI’s change in the proposal process, the medical industry got new possibilities and more transparency for ICD- and OPS-code proposals.

The German Institute for Medical Documentation and Information (DIMDI) adapted its proposal process for the further development of ICD-10-GM and OPS which is valid since Aril 29th, 2020.

The following adaptations are new and relevant:

  1. Proposals for the further development of the ICD-10-GM and OPS versions can be submitted by anybody.
  2. If a proposal has not been submitted by a medical society, it will be forwarded to the Association of the Scientific Medical Societies in Germany (AWMF). AWMF will transfer the proposals to the corresponding medical societies which will make an assessment.
  3. The proposal submitters will directly be informed on DIMDI’s decision. Previously, the decision could only have been retraced by the inspection of the final publishing of the ICD or OPS version.

According to our understanding, the adapted proposal regulations permits more transparency and neutrality during the proposal process. Furthermore, also the medical industry receives more opportunities to participate at the decision making of DIMDI. These new opportunities should be used in the scope of adapted Market Access and Reimbursement strategies. We are pleased to support you in this field.
