ePA should be a natural right for patients

Federal health minister Jens Spahn (in an interview at DMEA on June 7th 2021) states to be pleased that the electronic health record (German abbr. ePA) is on track. ePAs should become as natural as smartphones are today. The health insurances are prepared to provide ePAs since January, but the physicians and their practices are not yet technically able to fill and provide them to the patients (due to 140 different software systems for practices).

With digitization – even in pandemic times – more solutions could be developed. A digital identity and a major registry with data safety and security concept could support the situation. All citizens should have a right of a digital identity, fixed in the constitutional law of Germany.
