Unique control mechanisms of healthcare system via DRG data

The worldwide unique infrastructure for the data collection is an outstanding tool to control and navigate public healthcare – even and especially during a crisis.

On May 22nd, the second law for the German population’s security during Corona crisis came into effect. During 2020, it is already the second law of the federal ministry of health (BMG) to control the medical services during the corona crisis. It also is one of more than 20 implemented by federal minister of health Jens Spahn.

The law should secure the public healthcare and prevent supply shortfalls as in other countries.

In the scope of this law, all German hospitals are obliged (next to the regular data delivery to InEK (Institut für das Entgeltsystem im Krankenhaus GmbH) once a year) to send additional data two times during the ongoing year (06/15 and 10/15/2020) on all hospital cases.

“This is only possible due to the worldwide unique infrastructure for data collection which all hospitals practiced since the implementation of the G-DRG-system more than 15 years ago.” As Sven Sauermann of Healthcare Heads is convinced. “Only this infrastructure allows the complete and consistent data collection of the millions of cases treated in German hospitals, including its diagnoses and treatment data. It is a unique tool to cope with the challenges and to secure the quality and functionality of the healthcare system”.
