The NUB procedure (new examination and treatment method) is an application procedure pending at the InEK (Institute for the Hospital Reimbursement System). German hospitals can query whether they can negotiate additional reimbursement with health insurers for new diagnostic or therapeutic methods, if these are not yet properly reflected in the aG-DRG system. The application process takes place annually from the beginning of September to the end of October for the following year. As part of this process, the InEK checks if the method submitted for review is "new" and whether it is "not appropriately" represented in the aG-DRG system.
For the year 2026, the InEK initiated the NUB-proposal process on September 1st, 2025. Hospitals now have until October 31st, 2025, to submit NUB applications through the InEK's data portal.
