In addition to editorial revisions, the preliminary version of OPS 2027 includes numerous innovations and enhancements for the representation of innovative medical services. New coding options have been introduced for molecular diagnostics, robot-assisted procedures, left atrial appendage interventions, as well as innovative vascular and radiation therapies. Established areas such as thoracic surgery, hernia repair, endoprosthetics, intensive care medicine and oncology have also been further differentiated.
With these changes, BfArM continues the trend toward an increasingly precise description of medical services within the German healthcare system. Manufacturers of innovative medical technologies should therefore review the proposed changes at an early stage.
The new OPS codes will improve transparency regarding the delivery of healthcare services and will provide an important foundation for the continued data-driven development of reimbursement systems.
New OPS codes create opportunities for a more differentiated representation of procedures and treatments within the aG-DRG system. However, these benefits depend on consistent and accurate coding by hospitals.
Healthcare Heads specializes, among other services, in the development of both traditional and digital coding guidance materials for the MedTech industry for use in hospitals.
Are you planning to transform your existing coding guidance into a digital format, or do you need support in developing new coding information?
