BfArM lists first DiGAs – prescription possible as of now

Various Acts and Laws in the last months paved the way – and now, the first digital health applications (DiGAs) can be prescribed by physicians.

The Federal Ministry for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) admitted the first two DiGAs (on the topics of tinnitus and anxiety) to the official DiGA catalogue, which enables their Reimbursement by the statutory health insurance.

How the handling and prescription of DiGAs will play out in practice remains to be seen during the next months. However, it is already apparent that the BfArM finally opened the doors for digital health care in Germany with this step.
