BMG plans improvement of infrastructure in hospitals with 3 billion Euro

The BMG presents the Hospital Future Act (KHZG) that is meant to lead to a modern digital infrastructure in hospitals due to improved investments.

A modern digital infrastructure plays a major role for high-quality up-to-date healthcare. The federal government will provide 3 billion Euro from the national budget for improved digital and innovative infrastructure in hospitals - the investment financing of the federal states with its dual hospital finance is not sufficient.

Amongst other things, “an improved digital infrastructure is meant to be established to improve intern and cross-sector healthcare, especially to implement or improve process organization, documentation, communication, telemedicine, robotic and high-tech medicine.”

“We welcome this measure strongly and see it as urgently necessary to upgrade hospitals in the course of structural change to ensure, specifically in rural areas, a close-by patient care with improved digital and modern infrastructure due to investments.

In our understanding, the act cannot live up to its details that are announced as self-defined goals in the preamble. It only aims for an improvement of structure quality and interoperability of systems in its elaboration.

Financial aid for the implementation of innovative therapies, for example the supply of robotic assisted systems, does not seem to be planned, even though it would clearly change the quality of the results of treatments beyond neurosurgery. We would like to ask for subsequent improvement” states Sven Sauermann of Healthcare Heads.
