The e-prescription of digital health applications (DiGA) is currently in a test phase lasting several months. The city of Hamburg is one of the model regions. The aim is to test the technical processes and make possible adjustments before mandatory implementation.
What is the plan?
- Software providers must develop certified DiGA prescription modules by the end of 2025 and provide evidence of this to the KBV.
- The use of the e-prescription becomes mandatory at the earliest twelve weeks after the start of the following quarter in which the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) announces its introduction.
- For psychotherapists, the DiGA prescription will be the first e-prescription – Making corresponding information and training materials necessary.
What does that mean in real life:
- In the future, the e-prescription will replace the paper form for DiGA, as well as for remedies and aids, and home nursing care.
- In the event of technical problems, the paper version (e.g. “form 16”) may still be used as an exception.
- The transition promises more efficiency, transparency and standardization - but will on the other hand increased demands on IT systems and software manufacturers.
If you are a manufacturer, supplier, or service provider and would like to know more about how you can best prepare for the e-prescription, we are happy to advise you on regulatory developments, market opportunities and digital interfaces.
Additional information on implementation and the timetable can be found on the KBV website.
