InEK opens the 2027 NUB proposal process

For the next eight weeks you have the opportunity to receive reimbursement for your innovative therapy though the NUB application process

The application process for New Examination and Treatment Methods (NUB) is a formal submission procedure administered by the Institute for the Hospital Reimbursement System (InEK).

German hospitals can query whether they can negotiate additional reimbursement with health insurers for new diagnostic or therapeutic methods, if these are not yet properly reflected in the aG-DRG system.

The application process takes place annually from the beginning of September to the end of October for the following year. As part of this process, the InEK checks if the method submitted for review is "new" and whether it is "not appropriately" represented in the aG-DRG system.

For the year 2027, the InEK initiated the NUB-proposal process on September 1st, 2026. Hospitals now have until October 31st, 2026, to submit NUB applications through the InEK's data portal.

Against the backdrop of the current changes introduced by the German Statutory Health Insurance Contribution Stabilization Act, which are already impacting the NUB application process, robust reimbursement strategies and early preparation for evolving market conditions are becoming increasingly important.
